About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In an engaging Bundesliga encounter, RB Leipzig and VfL Wolfsburg played out a 2-2 draw on Sunday, 15 February 2026. The match, held at Leipzig's home ground, saw both teams share the spoils in a game that was full of twists and turns. The game began with Wolfsburg taking the initiative in the second half, as Mohammed Amoura found the back of the net in the 52nd minute, giving the visitors a crucial lead. Leipzig responded in the 70th minute through Yan Diomande, leveling the score and setting the stage for a thrilling final 20 minutes. Wolfsburg regained the advantage in the 78th minute when substitute Mattias Svanberg made an immediate impact, scoring to put his team ahead once more. However, Leipzig's resilience shone through as Brajan Gruda netted a late equalizer in the 89th minute, ensuring the home side salvaged a point. Tactically, both teams made several changes during the match. RB Leipzig's manager opted to bring on Maarten Vandevoordt, Ridle Baku, Castello Lukeba, and Johan Bakayoko, while Wolfsburg's head coach introduced Dzenan Pejcinovic, Konstantinos Koulierakis, Mattias Svanberg, and Jonas Adjetey. These substitutions played a pivotal role in the dynamic flow of the game. Pre-match expectations had suggested a closely contested affair, and the result was in line with those predictions. Both teams have been in fluctuating form, and this draw reflects their current standings in the Bundesliga table. For Leipzig, the draw means they remain in the hunt for a European spot, while Wolfsburg will be content with a point on the road as they aim to solidify their mid-table position. The result leaves both teams with plenty to ponder as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
